Calais Gala May 3rd & 4th 2014

2014-03-05 23:18:40

We  have been invited to take part in Calais Natation’s Open Meet on Saturday 3rd and   Sunday 4th May 2014.  The gala is the equivalent of a Level 2 Licensed meet and will be run under FINA rules and regulations. These are comparable with ASA regulations in the UK.  Only swimmers who were born in 2005, or earlier and have achieved East Invicta qualification times will be eligible to take part.. Warm up is at 0730 hrs on Saturday morning so we will need to travel to France on Friday May 2nd. We will meet at Dover Eastern Docks at 1615hrs on the Friday evening travelling as foot passengers. We will be collected from shipside by bus and taken to the Auberge de Jeunesse which will be our base for the weekend.  Accommodation is in pairs of twin bedded rooms with a shared ensuite shower room. Rooms will be allocated prior to travel. All transfers will be done using a local French Coach operator who we have used for ten years. We will return to Dover at approximately 2030hrs on Sunday May 4thth.

All participants will need to be in possession of their passport and the new style E111. The club will not be arranging travel insurance for this trip so if you require this you will need to arrange your own. Swimmers will be required to wear their Dover Life Guard tracksuit top and tee shirt for the journey to and from Calais and again on the return journey to Dover. It is compulsory for all swimmers to wear a hat. There are no exceptions so boys, if you do not normally wear one please arrange to purchase one before hand.

I would suggest that the children bring only enough money to spend on the ferry journeys and a few euros to buy drinks/food in the centre. As a guide £12.50 will buy a main course, pudding and a drink on the Ferry. Children will need to make their own arrangements for an evening meal on both Friday and Sunday evenings. I would also remind all parents that the club will not accept responsibility for personal belongings e.g. mobile phones, personal CD’s, DVD players, clothing etc. We would ask that children do not bring any electronic devices including mobile phones. We will give you all a full list of contact numbers for use in an emergency. The club have agreed to underwrite the cost by approximately £2000. The cost payable swimmers will be £75 and includes breakfast, lunch & evening meal on Saturday and breakfast & lunch on Sunday. Swimmers should bring a packed supper or money to buy food on the ferry Friday night and Sunday evening. Please remember to bring enough to drink on poolside for the full duration of the weekend, or some concentrate for mixing your own drinks.

You will find attached a copy of the entry form and qualifying times at the bottom of the page. Four entries are included in the standard cost. We would ask as far as possible that swimmers enter one event per session. If you wish to enter more, this can be done at an additional cost of £4.50 per event. We will receive confirmation of the confirmed entries on Friday April 11th.

Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come basis.  I will confirm precise times of the ferry nearer our departure date. Please ensure that you return your entry form, booking form, medical consent form (Please remember if you expect us to administer any medicine even Calpol/ Paracetomol we will require the medication form to be completed), copy of the photograph page of your passport, E111 and most importantly your payment of £75, to Nina or myself by Sunday March 16th. There will be a briefing/parents meeting on Thursday April 17th at 1900hrs in the bar at the Leisure Centre. If you have any questions in the meantime please do not hesitate to speak to me or send me an e-mail. (scott.walker@pofm.com)
