AEROBIC

Aerobic swimming is used during long, moderate, intense workouts. Training sessions are tailored to maximise the swimmers use of available oxygen. The goal in Aerobic swimming is to increase the endurance and improve the efficiency with which the swimmer distributes oxygen. This type of swimming also focuses on improving lung capacity and increasing exercise tolerance and overall performance.

An example of an aerobic swim set is 1,000m swim repeat 3 times, performed at 75% of the swimmers speed or max.

Aerobic swimming improves overall fitness and strength, but is not the best way to increase speed.
